Today, migration is no longer just a matter of economic mobility; it has become a global crisis triggered by wars, political oppression, internal conflicts, and social injustices. Those bearing the heaviest burden of this crisis are refugees. At this very point, we contributed to a meaningful project aimed at raising awareness among youth workers, enhancing their empathy skills, and drawing attention to the challenges refugees face.

Our project went beyond informing youth workers about refugee issues — it aimed to empower them to become more effective in the field. Participants discussed a wide range of topics from education and shelter to media representation and social exclusion. Through symposiums, workshops, and empathy-based activities, they not only gained knowledge but also developed a deeper sense of sensitivity.

Especially in the “Empathy Room” sessions, youth workers had the opportunity to internalize the basic issues refugees face in terms of housing, education, and employment. These activities helped them move from being passive observers to becoming active parts of the solution.

Thanks to the Erasmus+ Program and the Youthpass certificate, participants were also able to reflect on their own learning journeys, interact with people from diverse backgrounds, and grow in their sense of social responsibility.

As a result, our project helped youth workers and local communities confront biases, cultivate empathy, and embrace inclusive language and approaches when discussing refugees.
