Natural disasters, especially earthquakes, are unpredictable yet inevitable parts of life. What we can control, however, is how prepared we are to face them. With this belief, we embarked on an international project aimed at equipping youth workers with essential knowledge, tools, and awareness to better prepare themselves—and the communities they serve—for earthquakes.
Throughout the project, youth workers engaged in a variety of interactive activities such as seminars, simulations, planning exercises, and country-based data presentations. These activities were designed not only to transfer knowledge, but also to strengthen critical soft skills like teamwork, leadership, and crisis management.
One of the most impactful components was the “Family Disaster Preparedness Plan” workshop. Youth workers developed risk assessment models and practical strategies for improving household preparedness. By applying what they learned in real-life contexts, they became advocates of safety, capable of training others and leading by example.
Additionally, the project offered space for intercultural exchange, with youth workers from diverse backgrounds coming together to discuss global challenges and shared solutions. Respecting different perspectives and building international solidarity were among the project’s key takeaways.
As a result, a network of informed and empowered youth workers is now better equipped to influence their communities and promote disaster resilience on a broader scale.
