In January 2024, we proudly took part as a partner organization in the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project titled Celebrate the Diversity, held in Spain. The project aimed to raise awareness about long-standing social exclusion and discrimination, particularly focusing on the Roma community (also known as Gypsies), and to promote respect for cultural diversity across Europe.
🎯 What Was the Project About?
The Roma people have historically been marginalized and subjected to various forms of prejudice and discrimination across Europe. Limited access to education, employment, housing, and basic rights are some of the key challenges they face even today.
This project aimed to:
Provide accurate information about Roma culture and history
Break down stereotypes and prejudices toward Roma people
Increase awareness of human rights, equality, and social inclusion
Promote intercultural dialogue and solidarity among youth
🤝 What Was Our Role as Guardian Angels of the World?
As an active partner, Guardian Angels of the World contributed to the project both logistically and through active participation in activities. Our group leaders and young participants engaged in intercultural learning activities, discussions on discrimination, and hands-on workshops designed to dismantle biases against the Roma community.
Highlights of our contributions:
We provided our participants with in-depth information on Erasmus+ and Youthpass, helping them benefit fully from the program.
We took part in workshops such as "I Speak Romanesque", "Roma Legends", and "Atlas of Our Prejudices", focusing on mutual respect and intercultural understanding.
We ensured that disadvantaged youth were included in the project, supporting their personal development, self-confidence, and communication skills.
📊 Project Outcomes
Celebrate the Diversity offered both theoretical knowledge and a transformative learning experience for everyone involved. As a result of the project:
Participants gained a deeper understanding of the Roma community’s struggles and developed empathy.
They reflected on their own biases and established meaningful connections with young people from different cultures.
Our organization, as well as other partner institutions, enhanced their capacity in organizing inclusive youth activities.
Local communities gained awareness about Erasmus+ and the importance of tackling discrimination.
