In today’s world, rapid urbanization and lack of proper planning have made communities increasingly vulnerable to natural disasters. Earthquakes, in particular, continue to pose significant threats—especially when preparedness is low. Recognizing this need, we joined a cross-border initiative focused on training youth workers to take proactive steps before, during, and after earthquakes.

The project revolved around the idea that raising awareness begins with those who are closest to young people: youth workers. Through carefully structured sessions, participants explored the science of earthquakes, learned how to develop emergency action plans, and discussed how to effectively disseminate this knowledge in their own communities.

Digital tools were integrated throughout the project, supporting participants in boosting their tech literacy—an essential skill in today’s world of virtual engagement and information sharing. At the same time, the importance of empathy and inclusion was emphasized by ensuring active participation of youth workers with fewer opportunities.

The discussions and hands-on sessions helped bridge the gap between theory and action, allowing participants to build both competence and confidence in managing risks. By highlighting the role of the Erasmus+ program and its value for professional and personal growth, the project also encouraged continued engagement in youth-focused international collaborations.

Ultimately, this initiative planted the seeds of long-term societal resilience—starting with a single youth worker, and spreading outward to families, communities, and networks.
